JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman University President Dr. Randall O’Brien has named Tennessee Tech Associate Director of Athletics for Development Matt Pope as Carson-Newman’s new Vice President for Athletics.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Carson-Newman's athletic department concluded the academic year with its highest ever finish in the Learfield Director's Cup standings.  C-N wrapped up 2017-18 with a top-25 finish and a school-record 498 points in the annual standings.

PITTSBURGH – Carson-Newman pitcher Will Gardner was selected in the 21st round, 624th overall Wednesday afternoon by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

ATLANTA – Carson-Newman third baseman Brett Langhorne was selected in the 10th round, 292nd overall Tuesday evening by the Atlanta Braves in the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

INDIANAPOLIS – To put a punctuation mark on his time in a Carson-Newman uniform, senior right-hander Dillon Cate was lauded as a second-team 2018 Google Cloud Academic Division II All-American team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Wednesday afternoon.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Carson-Newman Director of Sports Performance Johnny Long has been named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) in a ceremony at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas.

It is the third straight season that Carson-Newman has placed a player on the roster as Brandon Roberts was lauded in 2016 and Paul Kirby earned a spot in 2017. Brandon Burchfield picked up the honor in 2006 and 2007 earning All-American honor each season as did Kirby last year.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman high jumper Tanner Stepp (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and women's soccer striker Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) brought home top honors as the Frosty Award winners for Male and Female Athlete of the Year, respectively, Tuesday evening at the Fifth Annual Frosty Awards ceremony in Gentry Auditorium.
