Picot and Fisher selected as individuals for the NCAA South Regional
The two upperclassmen members of the women’s golf team kept their play consistent enough throughout the season to earn a bid to the national stage at Cleveland Country Club.
After a 5th place finish as a team in the SAC Championship a few weeks ago, the Eagles chances at a team selection to the 18 squad regional were slim. However, Anaelle Picot and Emery Fisher were both top-75 golfers in the nation. Out of the six individual selections in the South Regional, Picot was #2 and Fisher was #5.
The regional will be hosted at Cleveland Country Club by Lee University, a course that C-N saw in their very first event in the fall at the South Regional Preview. In that event, the Eagles were 13th as a team in the field.
Individually, Picot recorded a T46 finish with rounds of 72, 80, and 81. The South Regional Preview was an outlier tournament for the graduate student, as her lowest finish in any event all year and her only rounds in the 80's this past season. Following the preview, Picot notched three top ten finishes and was never lower than 24th in any event. Her scoring average was 75.0 throughout the year.
Fisher did well in Chattanooga last time around, notching a 17th-place finish with rounds of 71, 72, and 81. She fell 16 spots in the standings with that final round. Fisher recorded six other top 25 finishes throughout the season, including a medalist victory at the Savannah Lakes Invitational. She held a 75.5 scoring average throughout the season.
Both Eagles were third-team all-conference selections for their efforts and will look to advance to the NCAA Tournament at PGA National in Florida by way of a win.
In the fall, Lee University had Cleveland Country Club set up at 6,036 yards as a typical par 72. The course has Bermuda greens and fairways and was established and designed by Gene Hamm in 1970.
There will be familiar opponents in the field for the Eagles, with conference opponents Wingate, Anderson, and LMU. Catawba's Mary Paige King was also selected as an individual for the tournament.
The 54-hole regional kicks off Monday, May 4th in Chattanooga, Tennessee. For updates, follow @CN_Eagles on X and Instagram, or Carson-Newman Athletics on Facebook. Full coverage is also available at cneagles.com
