Good, Buford, Harvie Top Award Winners at C-N Athletic Awards Banquet
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. Senior quarterback Alex Good (Greensboro, N.C.) became the first two-time Eagle Club Male Athlete of the Year, and senior womens basketball All-American Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) was named the Eagle Club Female Athlete of the Year as Carson-Newman held its annual athletic awards banquet Tuesday night on the Carson-Newman campus.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Senior quarterback Alex Good (Greensboro, N.C.) became the first two-time Eagle Club Male Athlete of the Year, and senior women's basketball All-American Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) was named the Eagle Club Female Athlete of the Year as Carson-Newman held its annual athletic awards banquet Tuesday night on the Carson-Newman campus.
Good led the Eagles to an 11-3 season and a national semifinal appearance last fall. He was named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Eagles to a perfect 7-0 record in conference play and their 21st SAC regular season title under head coach Ken Sparks.
The Greensboro, N.C. native led the Eagles to three-straight SAC titles to close his career, and leaves C-N as the career leader in touchdowns passes and career total offense.
Buford was the key to one of C-N's top seasons at the NCAA level. The Lady Eagles opened the year 16-0 and were ranked as high as No. 8 nationally.
The Hampton, Ga. native spurred the Lady Eagles to a 24-7 mark and the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. She is the SAC's all-time leader in career offensive rebounds, and finished her career six points shy of 1,500 (1,494).
Senior Jack Harvie (Snellville, Ga.), a member of the Eagles' tennis team, was named the Eagle Club Academic Athlete of the Year. He will graduate with a 4.0 with a degree in Business Management.
Junior quarterback Doug Belk (Valdosta, Ga.) was awarded the Roy Harmon Award, which is presented to a student-athlete who best personifies Christian character, integrity and competitiveness of former Eagle Football Coach, the late Roy Harmon.
Eagles backup quarterback, second leading receiver, and also returned punts to help C-N to a 21st South Atlantic Conference championship.
