Rachel Harper named to Carson-Newman Classic All-Tournament Team
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's Rachel Harper was selected as one of five members to the Carson-Newman Classic All-Tournament team as she helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's Rachel Harper was selected as one of five members to the Carson-Newman Classic All-Tournament team as she helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record.
The junior outside hitter led all players in the tournament averaging 4.65 points per set as she racked up 37 kills, third most among players. The native of Chattanooga, Tenn. also ranked first in service aces per set along with teammate Taylor Lowe as the tandem averaged 0.70 aces per set.
Harper finished the tournament with two double-doubles and fell a kill shy of a third double-double in the final match. The junior finished with third-most digs, notching 3.70 per set.
The Eagles were well-represented among statistical leaders in the two-day showcase. Junior setter Kristen Pickett averaged 8.40 assists per set in three matches, second-best among all athletes.
Carson-Newman put three players in the top five of blocks for the tournament. Sophomore Kiayna O'Neal tallied the highest total with 1.30 blocks per set. Freshman JaLesa Beaver tied for second with one block per set while senior Emily Schultz ranked fifth with 0.80 blocks per set.
Schultz also averaged 2.10 kills per set, good for seventh and Pickett racked up 0.50 service aces per frame, tying for the sixth highest total.
