Azor dominates at Sewanee Indoor Invitational Meet

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman men and women's track and field team travelled to Sewanee, Tennessee once again for the Sewanee Indoor Invitational at The University of the South: Sewanee.

Junior Jessica Azor finished in the top three of each of her four events. Of those four, she earned first-place in the Women's 55m dash, and 55m Hurdles finishing with times of 7.38 and 9.01, respectively.

 "To see Jessica Azor compete in so many events and do well is a testament to her athleticism and her commitment to the team," Head Track and Field Coach David Needs said,

Azor also placed second in the Women's high jump with a leap of 5'3" and third in the long jump, with a mark of 16'11½ ".

Junior Shauntae Miller, finished in second in the Women's 200m dash, and Freshman Madison Pickel earned second-place in the Women's 400m dash. Freshman Lindsey Franklin followed soon after in third-place, with a time of 9.77.

Freshman Jaa'leah White made her Carson-Newman debut in the women's 200m Dash and finished in first with a time of 26.81. Sophomore Jocelyn Perez, also making her 2014 debut, finished in second place in the 55m hurdles.

The 4x400m Relay team of Smith, Perez, Bauder and White finished in first-place with a time of (4:29.51) "To have her (White) and Jocelyn Perez fill in on the winning 4x4 team was tremendous." The Women's 4x800m Relay team of Bowman, Wood, Hutsel and Franklin earned second-place with a 12:09.78 finish.

From the men, Carson-Newman took the top-five spots in the Men's 55m dash with Luther Walker finishing in first at 6.51. Anthony Ball, Devin Thomas, Jason Williams and Jamal Jones finished in second, third, fourth and fifth-place, respectively.

In the Men's 200m dash, Aaron Seward finished in first-place with a time of 23.66, with TJ Davis, Matt Rust and Dia Andrews following close behind in second, third and fourth-place.

Brandon Lindley finished in first in the Men's 400m dash, with a time of 53.92. Joshua Marsh earned a first-place finish in the Men's 800m run in 2:18.05, with Mark Edwards and Colin Smith following close behind with times of 2:18.42 and 2:21.22, respectively.

The Men's 4x400m Relay team of Stewart, Seward, Lindley and Blassingame finished in first-place. The Carson-Newman Men's 4x800m Relay team of Bross, Edwards, Stump and Marsh finished with a time of 9:05.09 giving them third-place.

Men's Field events were dominated once again by Junior Cassadine Blassingame. Blassingame finished in first-place in the Men's high jump and triple jump, and second-place in the men's long jump. Randall Freeman finished in first in Men's shot put with a mark of 48'5 ½".

The Eagles break for two weeks before they begin their outdoor season.
