"It'll be a good test," head coach Randy Wylie said. "The course is supposed to be really good. I don't think many of the teams in the field have played it… I think we'll be able to gameplan the course as well as anybody with the experience we have."
Going into the first event of the fall, Wylie has seen many new faces entering the fold and competing at a high level for a spot in the lineup.
"All the spots in the lineup were up for grabs for the most part," Wylie said. "Owen Larson, a true freshman, got the 5-spot in a playoff against Will Bacon. I'm really excited to see how Owen does and all of our freshmen going forward. We have a good group of young players who will fight for lineup spots and push the older guys in front of them."
In addition to a handful of new faces, C-N returns multiple experienced players. Wylie sees this mix of young and old talent as a huge advantage for the Eagles.
"It means the world to have a team with young guys and older experience," Wylie said. "We will see that even more as they travel and go to tournaments. It's one thing to prepare here, and how those guys go about their business and how they go about qualifying; it's another when you go out on the road and you're traveling when it means an NCAA bid or a conference championship. I think that's when we will see older guys help the young guys be able to win and compete."
With the fall season serving as an opportunity both for the Eagles to learn a lot about themselves and work out the kinks, Wylie hopes his team can go out and kick off the season on the right foot with a solid all-around performance at the Bearcat Fall Invitational.
"I really want to get out to a good start," Wylie said. "I thought last year we started a little slow, and it hurt us in the rankings a little bit… I want their mentality not to be that we'll ease into the year but that we need to jump in there and fight right from the start."
Wylie's first starters include Elliot MacGregor, Noah Cambridge, Nick Daugherty, Aidan Powter, and true freshman Owen Larson.
C-N tees off on the 2024 campaign at 8:00 AM on Monday in McCormick, South Carolina.
