The Eagles picked up a pair of 4-1 wins over the Indians, avenging their two losses from 2021 and tying the all-time series at two wins apiece
MATCH ONE: C-N 4, Catawba 1
Carson-Newman opened the day with a dominant 4-1 win over Catawba, winning the first three matches.
Geurin and her partner Taylor Keeran rolled in straight sets at the number five position over Ruby Moore and Molly Mather, knocking off the duo 21-9 and 21-16.
At the number four position, Morgan Siwiec and Julia Wheeler defeated Hayes Smith and Natalie Rehm in straight sets, taking the first set in a hard-fought 23-21 victory before rolling to a 21-14 win in set two.
In the only match that went three sets, Piper Halcrow and McKenna Hall were victorious in their first time teaming together, rebounding from a 21-17 loss in set one to Ashley Johnson and Christina Knotts at number three to win the next two sets 21-19 and 15-13, clinching the match for the Eagles.
The lone set back for the Eagles was at the number two position, as Abbey Hildenbrand and Jenny Ille fell to Payton Medich and Arianna Colon in straight sets 23-21 and 21-19.
Sierra Still and Kenzie Palmer rolled to their third straight win as a pair, knocking off Raytchelle Miranda and Dara Kane in straight sets 22-20 and 21-17 at the number one position.
MATCH TWO: C-N 4, Catawba 1
Lindsey Geurin became the Eagles all-time leader in wins in an unconventional way in Carson-Newman's 4-1 victory over Catawba.
Geurin and Taylor Keeran took a win at the number five position by forfeit, moving Geurin's all-time record to 23-11. With the win, Geurin passes Abby Struewing for most wins all-time in a career. The senior has never had a losing record in her time at Mossy Creek, going 5-2 in 2020, 10-8 in 2021 and currently holds an 8-1 record this season.
Morgan Siwiec and Julia Wheeler completed the perfect 4-0 weekend, knocking off Hayes Smith and Ruby Moore 23-21 and 21-7 at the number four position. The pair have won four matches in a row after a three game losing streak.
Piper Halcrow and McKenna Hall clinched the win for the Eagles again at the number three position, knocking off Ashley Johnson and Christina Knotts in straight sets 21-6 and 21-18.
Abbey Hildenbrand and Jenny Ille rebounded from their opening match defeat with a win at number two in three sets. After Arianna Colon and Payton Medich took the first set 21-19, the Eagle pair took set two by their own 21-19 score and closed out the victory with a 15-11 third set win.
Raytchelle Miranda and Dara Kane prevented the Eagles from completing the sweep, knocking off Sierra Still and Kenzie Palmer in three sets at number one. Kane and Miranda dropped set one 21-16 before rolling in set two 21-11 and earning the win in set three 15-10.
The pair of wins move Carson-Newman to 7-2 this season, matching the convocation's win total from last season when they went 7-11.
Carson-Newman will head to Austin Peay for a weekend tournament, facing the host Govs and UT Martin on Friday, Mar. 11 and Jacksonville State and Chattanooga on Mar. 12.
