JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Sophomore Kyla Blakemore (Durban, South Africa) has been named the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Female Swimmer of the Week. Blakemore's honor comes after her efforts as part of the latest meet for Carson-Newman swimming against Lees-McRae on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Kyla Blakemore took home the victory in the women's 200-yard backstroke with her time of 2:04.62. Her time not only garnered the event victory for the South Africa native, but Blakemore came in almost 15 seconds ahead of second-place finisher in the event and fellow Eagle teammate, Kailey Grant.
The sophomore was also a member of the winning women's 400-yard medley relay team to start action on Saturday as she and her teammates came in at a time of 4:02.13 seconds as the Carson-Newman 'C' team. Kyla Blakemore was joined on the relay by Mandi Chadwell, Natalia Amano, and Kennadi King.
This is the first Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week honor for Morgan as an Eagle. The honor also marks the first such honor for Carson-Newman women's swimming since junior Kailee Morgan was honored following the Eagles meet versus Milligan a couple weekends ago.
In their last action on the season against the Bobcats, it was all about the Eagles as the program splashed to thier first home victory this season by a score of 312-169 overall with victories on both men's and women's side of competition last Saturday. For the women's side of the pool, it was Carson-Newman winning 144-96 while the men took home a 168-73 victory.
This is the second straight victory for the Eagles over the Bobcats after defeating them 390-116 last spring. Overall, this is Carson-Newman's second straight dual meet win in 2021 after they defeated Milligan 328-193 earlier this season.
The Eagles were dominant once the whistle finally blew to start action as they won 20 out of the 26 total events from the MSAC pool on the campus of Carson-Newman Saturday.
Blakemore and the rest of Carson-Newman swimming will now hit the road for their biggest event of the fall season later this week. The Eagles will make the short trek to Knoxville as they take part in the annual UT Invitational against the likes of the Universities of Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Virginia, UNLV, and South Carolina from the Allan Jones Aquatic Center from November 18 to 20.
Be sure to keep up with the Eagles swim team all season long on cneagles.com and on all of C-N's social media platforms.
