Eagles wrap up non-conference play with Mountain Lions
Carson-Newman (5-3-1) readies for its final non-conference game of the 2025 season when it plays host to Young Harris (4-4-2) at McCown Field on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (5-3-1) readies for its final non-conference game of the 2025 season when it plays host to Young Harris (4-4-2) at McCown Field on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
The Eagles have won three straight non-conference games after falling to Union in the season opener. The three out-of-league wins were consecutive wins over North Greenville, King, and Trevecca Nazarene. In those three victories, C-N outscored its opponents 11-1 for what served as the longest winning streak this season.
When scoring multiple goals under Duffy, C-N has been really good and especially this season. All five of Carson-Newman's wins have occurred when it has scored two more goals. However, the last time out, scoring multiple goals did not result in a win. E&H answered both C-N goals with the last one coming with 100 seconds left to tie the match last Wednesday. The Eagles are now 75-2-6 when scoring two or more goals under Duffy.
For just the second time in the past six seasons, Carson-Newman has two players with five goals or more in a season. Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio) has scored six times in nine games and in each of C-N's five wins. Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) has scored five goals. The last Eagle player to score five or more goals in a season was Sydnee Duncan in 2021, when she scored eight times. Only four players in the past decade have reached six goals quicker than Bukiewicz's in the first eight games of the year. Overall, C-N's offense has four players with multiple goals and five players with multiple assists.
Tomorrow, a win could extend a pair of streaks for Carson-Newman. A victory would give the Eagles their fourth straight win in non-conference play and would be their longest such streak since 2017. Currently, C-N is on a three-match unbeaten streak, matching its longest of the season. A win or tie would extend that to four tomorrow.
Carson-Newman and Young Harris have met eight times since the series began in 2009. The Eagles are 4-0 in Jefferson City versus the Mountain Lions and have outscored them 12-1. Tomorrow's meeting will be the fourth in the past five seasons, with the series dead even at 1-1-1 in the last three matchups.
Coming off consecutive nine-win seasons, Young Harris was selected to finish fifth in the 2025 Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll. YHC is halfway to repeating their win total from the past two seasons, off to a 4-4-2 start to the season. 3-2-2 is the record in CC play.
YHC's first two games this season are common opponents with C-N this season. The Mountain Lions scored four second-half goals to defeat Mars Hill 4-0 in the season opener. Two days later, YHC suffered a 1-0 loss in Nashville to Trevecca Nazarene. Conference play started with a 2-1 win over Lees-McRae at home, while its first road conference game was a 2-0 loss at Emmanuel. That loss propelled YHC to a four-match unbeaten streak to end September. The Mountain Lions scored five goals in each of its wins over Chowan and Emmanuel, with a pair of ties in the middle of the four-match streak. YHC is coming off a 1-0 loss at Francis Marion over the weekend.
Young Harris has one of the best freshmen in DII in Scarlett Hirschy. The midfielder has scored a team-high eight goals, all in league play with five of them coming in the past three games. She needed just 60 minutes to record a hat trick versus Emmanuel on October 1st. Four players scored multiple goals and four have multiple assists as well. Head coach Avram Allen's team's 19 goals are the third-most in CC this season and 52nd nationally.
Clara Williams started the first eight games of the year, but allowed 12 goals. Emily Jantz has started the past two, making 12 saves and allowing just one goal.
First touch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at McCown Field. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network is available with a subscription to FloSports at cneagles.com/floWsoc.
