Honcoop nabs TSWA Player of the Week honor
Carson-Newman midfielder Mitchell Honcoop has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman midfielder Mitchell Honcoop has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers' Association Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The weekly honor for Honcoop is the first of his career and C-N's first this season. He is the first Eagle to win a TSWA honor since Ben Dukes on November 1st last season.
The junior midfielder scored in both of Carson-Newman's win this past week. He started the week by booting home a free kick goal to start the scoring against Montevallo in the 26th minute.
Later in the week, Honcoop scored the game-winning goal against Newberry in a 2-1 win. He created space in the center of the pitch and fired a laser that dinged off the right post and into goal to make it 2-0 C-N.

Honcoop has been one of the best goal scorers in the South Atlantic Conference this season. The All-SAC midfielder has four goals this season, tied for second-most in the league this season. The Dutchmen now has 11 goals in his career, tied for most among active Eagles. His goals this season have come in back-to-back games, having scored in consecutive games for the third time in his career.
The midfielder played all 180 possible minutes this past week. He has started all seven games he has been eligible to play in this season.
