LEXINGTON, Ky. – In the final wave of performance awards, Emerson Ahsmuhs collects Honorable Mention All-American recognition from the AVCA.
After a first-team All-Region nod, the AVCA announced its All-American teams, which included Ahsmuhs on the honorable mention list. She is the first Eagle to be recognized as an All-American since Julia Wheeler in 2022, and the third C-N player in history to achieve this standard. Jenna Wilson was the first Eagle to be put on the list in 2014.
Ahsmuhs is also the youngest player out of the three to pick up All-American status. She is one of 26 underclassmen on the list.
With 404 kills this year, Ahsmuhs snuck into the top 20 all-time in single-season kills, landing 18th on the list. The California native stamped her name into an elite club as one of three Eagles in the last 20 years with 350 kills and digs.
Ahsmuhs ended the season ranked first in the SAC and 29th in the NCAA in kills per set (3.92). Her kills per set mark is fourth all-time in single-season kills per set records at Carson-Newman. She hit an efficient .263 throughout the year, which landed 12th among SAC competitors. Her efforts on the net led the Eagles to their first NCAA appearance in three years, where she paced C-N with 12 kills against Flagler. She was single-handedly responsible for 25% of Carson-Newman's points scored this season.
She also landed 20-plus kills three different times this season and tied for 14th for kills in a single match with 22. One of her 20 kill performances of the year was in three sets against Mars Hill, where she etched her name in the history books as the 2nd highest tally of kills in a three-set match.
She was also a defensive tool for the Eagles, collecting 385 digs and averaging 3.74 per set. Her efforts landed her top 10 in the SAC in that category. Ahsmuhs added 55 blocks throughout the season to round out an excellent season. With multiple 10-plus kill and dig games, Ahsmuhs ended the season with 13 double-doubles.
For her efforts, she was awarded All-SAC First Team, as well as AVCA and D2CCA All-Region First Team.
