Hornbuckle’s two-hit, three-RBI day leads team Navy to game three win
Team Navy is back in front in the best of five World Series with Team Orange thanks to Kylan Hornbuckle’s two-hit three RBI day in a 3-1 win Monday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Team Navy is back in front in the best of five World Series with Team Orange thanks to Kylan Hornbuckle's two-hit three RBI day in a 3-1 win Monday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
After a scoreless first inning, the visiting Orange team would score in the top of the second inning. Seth Benner walked and Tanner Kilgore singled to place runners on first and third. A passed ball would lead to Orange scoring to make it 1-0 in the middle of the second.
Team Navy would tie the game in the bottom of the second. Sebastian Rodriguez reached on an infield single. Next batter Kylan Hornbuckle laced a double into left field to score Rodriguez to level things after two innings.
Next inning, Hornbuckle would clutch up again for his team. With the bases loaded and two outs, the sophomore outfielder ripped a line drive single to plate two runs and put Navy in front for the first time and for good.
Navy's pitching staff was excellent. Drew Fletcher got the start, pitching 2 2/3 innings allowing a run on two hits with three strikeouts. James Salicco got the ball next and kept the Orange team off the scoreboard and recorded four strikeouts.
McCain Mangum pitched a scoreless seventh inning to seal the two-run win for team Navy. A 4-6-3 double play helped finish game three.
Hornbuckle's big day led an eight-hit attack for Team Navy.
Team Orange was held to just one run on four hits. They did manage to get at least one baserunner in each of the final three frames but came up scoreless in those chances.
Denver Slifka kept things close for Team Orange over the final few frames, not allowing a run to score in his relief appearance on the mound and struck out three.
With the win, Team Navy now leads the series 2-1 and also holds a plus six advantage in the run differential, 14-8. Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports network is available at cneagles.com/live.
