JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (8-6, 1-5 SAC) concludes the month of February in the Electric City, as it battles Anderson (11-4, 2-4 SAC) in a three-game series starting Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
Carson-Newman will be looking to get itself out of a funk at the start of the conference season. The Eagles are just 1-5 after their first two conference series, with the lone win coming in the series finale to Lincoln Memorial. The 1-5 start to SAC play is the worst six-game start to league play since starting the 2009 season 1-5 as well.
The Eagles rank top three in several offensive categories through 14 games. They are second in the league in hit by pitches and sacrifice flies, while ranking third in walks (88) and doubles (28). Defensively, C-N has turned 11 double plays the second-most in SAC this season. Those double plays have helped the pitching staff post a 5.13 earned run average, third-best in the league.
Logan Floyd (Adairsville, Ga.) continues to be an on-base machine for Carson-Newman. The junior infielder has reached base safely in 48 straight games, one of the longest known streaks in program history. He is off to a great start this season, hitting .468 with a team-high 16 RBI.
Bradley Soto Diaz (Davenport, Fla.) has been a great addition to Carson-Newman's lineup in 2026. The William Penn transfer has hit safely in 12 straight games and is second the team with a .465 batting average. The senior outfielder has five multi-hit games over his last seven appearances.
Carson-Newman will look to continue its success versus Anderson. The Eagles lead the all-time series 39-12 and have swept the Trojans each of the last two seasons. C-N has won nine of the last 10 meetings. 30 of the 51 meetings have been in the Electric City and the Eagles have won 22 of those matchups.
Anderson started the 2026 season with impressive marks. The Trojans swept three-game series versus King and Davis and Elkins and followed that up with a midweek win over Augusta to begin the season 7-0. Adversity hit in its first conference series of the year, being swept at home by Newberry, but the Trojans have responded with wins in four of their last five games including a series win over Tusculum this past week. AU is 11-4 overall but just 2-4 in SAC competition. It is one of 12 teams in the Southeast region to reach the double-digit win total so far this season.
Head coach PJ Zocchi has one of the best offenses in DII baseball this season. His team has scored 19 runs or more in four of its 15 games this season. They broke the school's record for runs in a game by scoring 30 in a series-opening win over Davis and Elkins. Anderson averages 10.5 runs per game, tied for the most in the South Atlantic Conference. They rank first in doubles with a league-best 34.
Leading the offensive attack is Braeden Harrison. The junior outfielder is third in the league with a team-high 25 RBI. His three home runs are tied for the team lead and overall he has a team-high nine extra-base hits. Harrison is one of three AU hitters with a .400 batting average. Gray Wells is hitting .405 and has three games with three or more hits this season. In just nine starts, Adams Faucett has a .438 batting average with nine RBI.
It's not just been the offense that has powered Anderson to 11 wins. AU's pitching staff has three shutouts through 14 games, second-most nationally. The Trojans have the best strikeout-to-walk ratio at 2.68 and only walk three batters per game. Their 4.73 earned run average is second-best in the league. Kaleb Owens has 21 strikeouts in 16 innings on the mound and is coming off a seven-inning shutout of Tusculum this past weekend. Owens' 1.13 era leads the team. Out of the bullpen, Luke Godwin has pitched 8 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball in his first four appearances of the year.
First pitch for the series opener on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The series can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network at cneagles.com/live. A live camera of the broadcast crew "In the Booth" will also be available on YouTube.
