C-N hits the road for Saturday tilt with Wingate
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (7-3, 4-1 SAC) plays its final game before Christmas on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. as it visits Cuddy Arena for a matchup with Wingate (5-4, 1-3 SAC).

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (7-3, 4-1 SAC) plays its final game before Christmas on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. as it visits Cuddy Arena for a matchup with Wingate (5-4, 1-3 SAC).
Carson-Newman has its longest winning streak of the season after defeating UVA Wise by 26 on Wednesday evening. All three wins during this streak have come in SAC play and by 18 points or more. The Lady Eagles are shooting 44 percent and scoring 82 points per game on this three-game winning streak. Defensively, it has held four straight opponents to 37 percent shooting or worse and has not allowed more than 66 points as well.
With four made three-pointers, senior guard Jennifer Sullivan (Knoxville, Tenn.) continues to be one of the best shooters in DII this season. Her 28 three-pointers are the 16th-most in DII this season, averaging nearly three per game. Sullivan has now made 102 career three-pointers, 89 of which have been since joining C-N last season.
Carson-Newman continues to stand out in multiple areas in the early portion of the conference slate. Head coach Mike Mincey's team leads the SAC in assist/turnover ratio (1.20), assists per game (17.0), blocks per game (6.0), field goal percentage defense (35.0), free throw percentage (79.3), rebounds per game (43.1) and in offensive rebounds per game (14.8). C-N ranks top 40 nationally in all of those categories, headlined by being the seventh-best shot-blocking team in DII.
The Lady Eagles have fared well versus Wingate as of late, sweeping the regular season meetings each of the last two years. C-N's lone loss in the past five meetings was in the 2024 SAC Tournament title game in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Carson-Newman has won back-to-back meetings in Cuddy Arena and will look for just its second three-game road winning streak in this series on Saturday. The 1992 and 1993 seasons are the last time C-N won three straight road matchups against Wingate.
The first month of the season treated Wingate well, starting 4-1 in its first five games of the year. The lone blemish was a six-point road loss to Francis Marion, with two wins in a Hawaii trip to end November. This month of December has been all conference games, and they have won just one of the four. WU's lone win was a 27-point blowout of Tusculum on Dec 6. The Bulldogs have a 15-point loss to UVA Wise, an overtime loss to Lincoln Memorial and most recently suffered a 10-point home loss to Lenoir-Rhyne. WU led by 10 vs LR in the second half, but allowed 49 second-half points and was outscored 35-15 in the final 14 minutes.
Kyleigh Bacon is the team's leading scorer, averaging 13 points per game on 52% shooting. She has six double-digit scoring days and leads the team in free throws made. Laura Montiel averages 11 points per game and shoots 52% as well.
The Bulldogs are the most efficient offense in the conference, making 44.2% of their shots per game. Despite that mark, WU averages just the eighth-most points at 66 per game.
