JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (9-3, 5-1 SAC) gets back into South Atlantic Conference tomorrow as it continues a four-game road swing against Emory & Henry (3-9, 1-5 SAC) at 5:30 p.m. from the King Center in Emory, Virginia.
The Lady Eagles have found their stride since a loss to begin December. They have won five straight games, marking the 8th consecutive year the program has a winning streak of at least five games in a single season. Under head coach Mike Mincey, the program has produced a five-game winning streak in 12 of his 15 seasons. During this current five-game winning streak, C-N is averaging 74 points per game, shooting 41 percent from the field and making more than eight three-pointers. Defensively, it has been just as good. The Lady Eagles defense has held opponents to 57 points per game on 32 percent shooting during this streak and is forcing more than 18 turnovers per game as well.
Carson-Newman has extended this winning streak thanks to quality efforts on the road. The Lady Eagles have won three straight on the road, including back to back to begin this four-game road swing. The program now has at least one three-game road winning streak nine of the past ten seasons.
Carson-Newman continues to stands out in multiple areas this season. The Lady Eagles leads the SAC in assist/turnover ratio (1.13), assists per game (16.7), blocks per game (5.8), and field goal percentage defense (34.5). C-N ranks top 40 nationally in all of those categories, headlined by being the fifth-best shot-blocking team in DII.
C-N has won all seven meetings all-time, with six of those by double-digits. Three of those seven meetings have been at the King Center, where C-N has won by at least 11 points and scored at least 70 points. The Wasps have not scored more than 68 points against C-N all-time and have been held below 50 points twice.
Emory & Henry enters Wednesday's contest on a six-game losing streak, tied for the longest-active losing streak in the Southeast region. The Wasps were 3-3 at the beginning of December, but have since lost six straight contests. E&H defeated Southern Wesleyan in the season opener 82-62, with its other two wins over Anderson and Mount Olive in consecutive games spanning the end of November into December. During this six-game skid, the Wasps have lost by an average of 15 points.
Much of the reason for the difficult start for E&H has been because of the number of road games it has played. Eight of its 12 games have been on the road, going 1-7 in such games with five of the six losses during the losing streak being on the road as well. In three home games, head coach Jaclyn Dickens' team averages 80 points per game and makes nearly 47 percent of its shots. Those numbers compared to 64 points and 37 percent shooting in road games.
Breanna Yarber and Lyndie Ramsey both score in double figures on average. Yarber leads the team at 15.4 points per game and makes 54 percent of her shots. Ramsey averages 14.5 points and makes two and a half three-pointers per game as well.
The Wasps are the best defensive rebounding team in the South Atlantic Conference, grabbing 30 per game which is 11th best nationally as well. Despite averaging the second-most assists per game at 14, E&H ranks second to last in turnovers with more than 22 per game.
Tip off with the Wasps is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 5:15 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
