JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (16-4, 12-2 SAC) looks to go on its longest winning streak of the season when it visits UVA Wise (12-8, 9-5 SAC) Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. inside the Prior Convocation Center.
Carson-Newman has won six straight games, matching its longest streak of the season. Overall, C-N has won 12 of its past 13 games. The Lady Eagles offense went to another level in January. It scored 92 points per game on 49 percent shooting, the program's best scoring month since 2017-18. It's the most efficient month of basketball for the program since February of the 2021-22 season.
After losing its first two road games, C-N has responded well by winning six of its past seven road affairs. On the road this season, the Lady Eagles are averaging 77.4 points per game and shooting 41 percent. Over its past four road games, C-N is averaging 96.2 points per game and is just under 50 percent from the field.
For the second time in the past three weeks, Jennifer Sullivan (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week. She was exceptional in helping C-N collect a pair of 27-point wins in the final week of January. For the week, the Knoxville native averaged 26 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Impressively, Sullivan made 66.7 percent of her shots and 56 percent of her three-pointers. In total, she was 20-30 from the field and nine for 16 from long range.
In just 51 career games with C-N, Sullivan has put her three-point shooting on full display. Her 120 three-pointers are 12th-most in program history, just 10 away from moving into the top ten. To reach that mark, she has done so on superb efficiency. Sullivan's 41.8 career three-point percentage is second-best all-time in program history.
Carson-Newman won the first meeting with the Highland Cavaliers back on December 17th. C-N jumped out to a 25-point halftime lead and never looked back for a 84-58 win. UVA Wise has been tough to beat at the Convocation Center this season. Since suffering a loss in its home opener to Concord, Wise has won seven straight games at home which is the fifth-longest active home winning streak in the Southeast region. Four of the seven wins are by double-digits including three of the past four. They have also scored 69 points or more in all eight home games.
The most efficient scoring offense in the SAC is led by the conference's leading scorer Caroline Mullins. The sophomore forward has scored in double-figures in every game this season and has eight 20-point nights. Her 19.7 points per game ranks 12th-best nationally.
Madison Looney also scores in double-figures for Wise, averaging 13 points on 53 percent shooting. C-N held Looney to her lowest-scoring day of the season back in December.
