JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (11-4, 7-2 SAC) continues South Atlantic Conference play as it plays host to Newberry (9-6, 3-6 SAC) Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. inside Holt Fieldhouse.
Carson-Newman stayed unbeaten at home, collecting its fifth straight home win over a ranked team by defeating #20 Lincoln Memorial by 18 on Wednesday. Dating back to last season, Carson-Newman has won 12 straight home games, tied for the sixth-longest active home winning streak in DII. Over the past three seasons, C-N has won 32 of its past 33 home games.
Jennifer Sullivan (Knoxville, Tenn.) continues to score the ball well for C-N. She reset her career-high Wednesday, scoring 30 points on a career-high seven three-pointers. Sullivan has exactly 700 points in her Lady Eagles career and has drilled 103 three-pointers. She ranks 13th all-time in threes made, and impressively, ranks second in three-point shooting percentage all-time at .417. This season, the senior guard is averaging 18.2 points per game and leads the SAC in free throw shooting at 88%.
The Lady Eagles continue to show they are one of the best shot-blocking teams in DII. Mincey's team came up with 11 more blocks on Wednesday, the second time this season they have double-digit rejections in a game. C-N's six blocks per game is fifth nationally and just 0.8 behind DII's best.
Along with shot-blocking, C-N also ranks top ten nationally in three-pointers per game (9.0), assists per game (18.0) and assist to turnover ratio (1.22).
Carson-Newman has dominated this series over the past decade. The Lady Eagles have won 16 straight meetings versus Newberry, including 11 in a row at Holt Fieldhouse. 12 of the 16 wins for C-N are by double-digits including five in a row. All-time, C-N leads the series 39-17 and is 23-4 at Holt Fieldhouse.
Newberry's 2025-26 season has been a rollercoaster ride to get to a 9-6 mark. Head coach Johnette Walker's team won their first six games of the year, with half of those wins coming by double-digits. Then, conference play started in December and the Wolves dropped three straight to Mars Hill, UVA Wise and Coker. They bounced back with a trio of wins over Anderson, Emory & Henry and Tusculum spanning the winter break. But heading into Saturday's matchup, Newberry has dropped its past three games to Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial and to Wingate on a last-second basket on Wednesday.
Rickell Brown is one of the most improved players in the South Atlantic Conference this season, going from a three point per game scorer to a team-best 17 points per game as a sophomore. Brown has scored in double-figures in 14 of the 15 games and has seven 20 point games for the year. MaryKate Kent is the top three-point shooter in the SAC with 47 makes this year on 41 percent shooting. Kent has three or more three-pointers in nine of her 15 games this year.
Thanks to Kent's long-range shooting, Newberry is the most efficient three-point shooting team in the league at 32.2 percent.
