CLEVELAND, Tenn. – While the team sits in 13th after the first two rounds, the junior is one under after 36 holes and holds a stroke lead over second place.
After the first round of the tournament, Carson-Newman was tied with Anderson for 7th, shooting 304. It was a bright start to the day for the young Eagles team, with three players coming into the clubhouse in the low 70s.
The two returners for the Eagles led the way, with Emery Fisher shooting a one-under 71 in the first round. Fisher birdied her first two holes of the day (7 and 8), logged a double on the par four twelfth, but fought back to fire two more holes under par.
Anaelle Picot was one back of Fisher in the first round, carding an even par 72. Picot logged a birdie on number 9 to send her into the back with six straight holes even. She would then birdie the par 4 16th. The following holes were up and down for the graduate student, who fired one birdie and three bogeys in the final seven holes.
Grace Lambert was the other golfer in the 70's for the Eagles, shooting even par 36 on the front nine with three bogeys and three birdies that cancelled each other out. On the back, Lambert carded three more bogeys and grabbed another birdie to come in at 74. The individual for the Eagles, Madison Miller, was the next best finisher, shooting an eight-over 80.
However, the Eagles struggled in round two, firing a 321 (+33) as a team. Fisher was the only Carson-Newman player in the 70's who contributed to the team score. Her four birdies assisted her in cancelling out the four bogeys she made to register another round at even or better.
Madison Miller again was one of the top finishers, grabbing an even par 36 on the front and a five over 41 on the back to shoot 77. Miller sits 57th in the individual standings on the day.
Picot kept the Eagles in round two with an eight-over 80. Following an unfortunate double bogey at the par four eighth, Picot rallied to birdie number nine. With six more bogeys throughout the round, the grad student sits just outside the top 30.
Lambert also carded an 80 for the Eagles, and Parker Miller would be the last score that would count in the second round for C-N with a 17-over 89. Lambert sits below Picot in 40th, Rylee Tucker 92nd, and Parker Miller in the 93rd position.
The Eagles are 38 strokes back of both Lynn and Wingate who sit tied atop the leaderboard with 18 holes to play. Three players are tied at even par below Fisher for second place.
The Eagles return to Cleveland Country Club for the final round tomorrow at 9:00 AM. You can follow along with the live scoring on the Clipped website.
