The Eagles finished in a tie for fourth at the Music City Invitational, marking their highest finish of the year by four spots.
OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The Eagles finished in a tie for fourth at the Music City Invitational, marking their highest finish of the year by four spots.
Previously, the highest finish for the young men's golf team was a 8th place finish at the Dog Spragg Memorial in the fall. This week, the Eagles put together their second-lowest 54-hole score of the season to land in a tie for 4th with Miles out of 16 teams in the field.
"It was very nice for the Eagles to put together three good rounds in a tournament," said head coach Randy Wylie. "That's what we have been looking for and working towards. Super excited to be led by the freshman Bowen Wentz."
C-N also saw three golfers finish in the top 25 of the event, including a fourth-place finish from freshman Bowen Wentz.
Wentz began the day with five pars and made a birdie on the 6th before a bogey at the 8th to shoot even par on the front nine. He bounced back from a double at the 11th with his final birdie of the day on the par-four 12th for a final round 70 (E).
The freshman's three-round total was 71-67-70 on the par-70 golf course, adding up to two-under overall and his first top-five finish of his career.
Ian Schoonmaker was next best for the Eagles in the event. He started on hole one and carded 12 straight pars to open the round before bogeys on the 13th and 15th holes. His first birdie of the day came on the par-five 16th and ended the round with a birdie on the 18th as well.
Schoonmaker's 54-hole split was 70-69-71 for an even par finish. His score relative to par was a collegiate low by six strokes, and the 14th-place finish was the first top 25 of his career.
Brady Wentz found trouble on his third hole of the day with a double at the 4th. He made 9 pars before a birdie at the 14th. His final under-par score came on the 18th for a final round +3. He shot +2 over 54-holes and finished 22nd in the field.
Theo Baker started out with back-to-back bogeys before helping himself with a birdie on the par-four 7th. He then got on a streak of pars, making five in a row. He ended his round with a bang, making birdie on the par-three 17th, eagling the par-four 18th, and birdieing the par-four 1st. That helped bring his final round back to a one-over 71 for a +5 finish after 54 holes. He placed 31st in the tournament, jumping 7 spots in the final round
Dylan Frein made three bogeys in a row before finally hopping on the par train with seven consecutive. His only birdie of the day came after a double on the par-four 18th for a final round 76 (+6). The freshman was nine-over through the event and 53rd overall.
Owen Larson made two birdies on the front nine on both the 1st and 5th holes to shoot even on the front nine. As he wrapped up his round, he made bogey on the 10th and 14th holes but birdied his final hole of the day on the 16th for a final round 72 (+2). Larson was +8 over the event and 46th in the standings.
The team finished above #48 Hillsdale, and were seven strokes back of the leaders, Trevecca Nazarene (-4).
With the great finish, C-N now has about two weeks before the SAC tournament. The SAC Championships run from April 19-21 in Greenville, South Carolina. In a new format in 2026, the field will play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 on Monday. Following a cut to the top four teams, the remaining players will play match play (#1 vs #4, #2 vs #3) on Tuesday. The remaining two teams will play another round of match play to decide the conference champion. Last season, Men's Golf finished 9th in the event.
