Three Eagles are inside the top 20 at the SAC Championship while the team sits on the bubble

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Carson-Newman is in a tie for fourth after the first two rounds of the SAC Men's Golf Tournament with 18 to play before the cut for the match play segment.
The Eagles enjoyed 65 degree weather in Greenville on Sunday for their 36 hole day.
C-N was in third after the first round and now sits in a tied for 4th with Anderson. Catawba, LMU and Wingate are ahead of the Eagles in the standings. With one more round to play, C-N needs to stay inside the top four to make it to the medal match play segment of the tournament on Tuesday.
The Eagles carded the 4th most birdies of the field throughout the first two rounds, but the story of the day was the big numbers. Carson-Newman made the second most double-bogeys of any team in the field with 17.
In round one, Ian Schoonmaker was the Eagle's best scorer. The sophomore was two-under through the first seven holes with birdies on the first and fifth holes. However, he made double on the par-five 9th. He bounced back with a birdie on the par-four 12th, but then doubled the next two holes in a row. The sophomore rallied to go four under through the last four holes of his first round with an eagle on the par-five 18th. He shot 73 (+1) in round one.
Dylan Frein was the next best for the Eagles. The freshman was one under through seven holes before a bogey at the 8th. He was even par on the front nine, but found a double bogey on the par-three 11th and a triple 13th hole. Similar to Schoonmaker, Frein showed resilience with three birdies in his last five holes for a first round 74 (+2).
Theo Baker only made one double in the first round on the par-four 10th. He had to be patient for his first birdie of the day on the par-five 14th. He capped of his first round with a birdie at the 18th. Baker shot 76 (+4) in round one.
Brady Wentz only made one bogey in the first round, but made three doubles. However, Wentz recorded birdies on the 4th, 12th, and 14th holes to match Baker with a 76 (+4).
Bowen Wentz did not have a birdie in round one, but made 11 pars throughout the day for a first round 80 (+8).
Bowen turned it around through in the second 18. The freshman kept his card clean with 13 pars, three birdies, and two bogeys. Wentz shot a second round 71 (-1) to jump 19 spots in the rankings. He currently sits 19th overall with a +7 score through 36 holes.
Frein matched his first round with a 74 (+2). The freshman birdied the 5th hole, but found a bogey just two holes later. He was one of three Eagles to birdie the 14th hole in round two and made six pars on the back nine. Frein is +4 through the first two rounds and 12th in the rankings.
Theo Baker improved on his first round with a birdie at the 5th, 14th, and 18th holes and 11 pars for a 74 (+2) in the second 18. Baker has a total score of +6 and is 17th in the field.
Schoonmaker was slightly inconsistent in round two. Her started out with birdie at the first before eight holes with scores over par throughout the round. He did birdie the par-three 15th, but shot 81 (+9). He is +10 through 36 holes and 31st in the rankings.
Brady Wentz saw only one birdie on the 4th hole in the second round to shoot 82 (+10). The junior is +14 and 42nd in the 51-man field.
The Eagles were +11 in round one and +12 in round two to go +23 as a team. Wingate currently leads the field at -2. C-N is necessarily in a race with the Trojans and Coker for the final spot in the final day of play. Catawba is in third at +9, while Coker is in 6th at +27.
