Eagles Sweep Catawba and Wingate to Open Conference Weekend
Carson-Newman beach volleyball opened conference play in dominant fashion on Friday, sweeping both Catawba and Wingate 5-0 during day one of the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas weekend at the Hardin Park Beach Volleyball Complex. The Eagles move to 9-0 on the season after winning all 10 flights on the day.
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman beach volleyball remained unbeaten on the season with a pair of dominant victories to open conference play at the Hardin Park Beach Volleyball Complex in Greenville, Tenn. The Eagles swept both matches on Friday, defeating Catawba 5-0 before closing the day with another 5-0 win over Wingate.
With the victories, Carson-Newman improves to 9-0 overall on the season and have recorded 20 straight set wins in a row.
"Very pleased with the pairs and how we played today," said head coach Cat Collins. "They did a great job implementing the offense we have worked on in practice. Excited to see how we respond tomorrow. Our goal is adpat faster on defense and continue to stay ahead of the game on offense, and not miss too many serves."
The Eagles opened the day with a commanding performance against Catawba, winning all five flights in straight sets. The No. 1 pairing of Trinity Hafey and Paige Halcrow set the tone with a 21-15, 21-8 victory over Emma Christensen and Marcella Lapeira. Emerson Ahsmuhs and Ava Potts followed with a 21-17, 21-14 win in the No. 2 flight.
Addie Smith and Camryn Ehlers secured another point for Carson-Newman at No. 3 with a 21-15, 21-18 win over Lauren Boddell and Payton Fendley. Morgan Foy and Lucy Bartee controlled the No. 4 flight with a 21-10, 21-17 victory, while Kelcey Peterson and Madison Trondle completed the sweep with a 21-12, 21-11 win in the No. 5 position.

Carson-Newman carried that momentum into the afternoon matchup with Wingate, once again sweeping all five flights.
Hafey and Halcrow battled through the closest match of the day at No. 1, defeating Lilou Thieme and Kate Beezer in three sets, 21-14, 22-24, 15-8. Ahsmuhs and Potts delivered another strong performance at No. 2 with a 21-12, 21-14 win over Naomi Hilliard and Ella Harm.
Smith and Ehlers added a straight-set victory at No. 3, taking down London Moultrie and Lilly DeLamielleure 21-15, 21-16. Foy and Bartee dominated the No. 4 flight with a 21-12, 21-9 win over Amelia Talbott and Ashlyn Buck, while Peterson and Trondle sealed the second sweep of the day with a 21-9, 21-16 victory against Michaela Benfield and Ragan Ball.
