ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the first time this season, Carson-Newman Indoor Track & Field has a weekly honor. Freshman Cadence Dolgin (Lebanon, Tenn.) was named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference's Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday by the league's office.
Dolgin made a statement in his collegiate debut, setting a new Carson-Newman record at the VMI Colonel Bev Read Opener. He rewrote the Carson-Newman indoor track & field history books with his pole vault performance on Saturday at the VMI Colonel Bev Read Opener. The freshman broke the C-N pole vault record, clearing a height of 4.70 meters to take first place in the event.
Assistant coach Sam Cleek held the record, 4.58m, which he set back in 2022, and has been influential in Dolgin's development. Cleek's birthday was also Sunday, and it is seen as a "full circle moment."
"I'm sure Coach Cleek is a little sad to see his record go, but I know he's super happy it's Cadence," head coach Kieran Showler-Davis said. "A great opener that Cadence can really build off of and hopefully break it many more times this indoor season."
This is Dolgin's first career SAC weekly honor.
