JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Indoor Track & Field is returning to Lexington, Virginia, for the second time this year, now for the VMI Winter Relays.
Earlier this season, the Eagles made the trip to the CPTF (Corps Physical Training Facility) on December 6th.
During that event, Cadence Dolgin rewrote the Carson-Newman indoor track & field history books with his pole vault performance on Saturday at the VMI Colonel Bev Read Opener. The freshman broke the C-N pole vault record, clearing a height of 4.70 meters to take first place in the event.
Elsewhere, Brooke Taylor started her senior season on a high note. She took first place after registering 5.82m in her jump, just 0.02m off her PR.
The 60m finals featured all members of Kieran Showler-Davis's squad, as Carson-Newman had set the top eight times in the preliminary rounds. Rylan Jordan's 6.75-second time set a new PR for the sophomore, Emmett Watson, 6.84, and Merlin Silveri, 6.87, completed the top three.
Jordan also took first place in the 300m at 33.70 seconds, with Favour Ekpekpe (Nigeria) taking second at 33.89 seconds.
C-N was last in action on January 24th at the Liberty Open, which was headlined by Jordan and Lovelyne Larrame breaking school records.
Jordan started his day strong with the fastest time in the prelims for the 60m dash at 6.79 seconds. However, he did not participate in the finals to rest up for the 400m race. It was certainly the right choice as Jordan claimed third place overall and etched his name in the Carson-Newman history books with a 47.97-second performance for a new school record.
Later in the afternoon, Lovelyne Larrame ran a 24.79 in the 200m for a new school record. Breaking Sade de Sousa's previous record, Larrame finished 13th overall in the event.
Friday's events start with the women's pentathlon at 9 a.m., and the men's heptathlon starts at approximately 9:30 a.m. The women's DMR will be the concluding event at 5:25 that evening.
On Saturday, the festivities resume with the men's heptathlon at 8 a.m., and events will run until approximately 4 p.m. after the conclusion of the women's 4x400 relay.
